Tried being a political activist mom (PAM) last Thursday. The town meeting was all about water privatization and how the water utility agency is so shabbily taken care of here that a corporation would be best set up to deal with EPA mandates. Blah blah. The town meeting thing just sounded so democratic (plus I knew the main anti-privatization presenter) But I got the wind knocked out of me when some bigwig water guy said the issue was not necessarily going to be on an island-wide ballot any time soon. But that it could be. What the...!!!

I admire all the other PAMS in the world. All I kept thinking about was how much time the town meeting was taking away from my boy and me. Baah! Yet I couldn't pull myself away. I was swimming in intellectual boohah and political rhetoric. Manufacturing consent indeed. Since privatization is not going to be decided by the people (as of this writing), then that's all the utilities commision is doing--manufacturing consent.

Then I put baby to bed, ran out of the house like an errant mom, and partied for an hour at a club with aforementioned ex-roommate/instigator of the town meeting. Woohoo.
